Thinking about upgrading your home comfort systems OR your hot water heater.  Then now’s a great time to do just that.

The U.S. government has extended its Energy Star tax credit program on geothermal heat pumps and solar hot water heaters.  In each case, you can earn a 30% tax credit on the full purchase price of the system, including expert installation by Mechanical Technologies.

Geothermal Heat Pumps

Geothermal heat pumps are similar to ordinary heat pumps, but instead of using heat found in outside air, they rely on the stable, even heat of the earth to provide heating, air conditioning and, in most cases, hot water. That makes them among the most efficient and comfortable and heating and cooling technologies currently available.

To qualify for the 30% tax credit, the home must be your principle residence.  Existing homes and new construction are eligivel, while second homes and rental properties are not.

Solar Hot Water Heaters

Solar hot water systems use the sun's energy to heat water in liquid-based solar collectors; they typically are used along with conventional water heaters. A standard solar hot water system can provide about 50% of the water heating energy needs in a home.

Although 54% of all sunlight is lost before it reaches the earth’s surface, the sunlight that does reach the earth is about 200,000 times the total electrical energy generated every day.

To qualify for the government’s 30% tax credit, the unit you purchase must have at least half of its power provided by the sun.  The system also must be certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) or a comparable entity endorsed by the government of the state in which the property is installed.

Once again, the tax credit applies both to the unit itself and installation provided by Mechanical Technologies.

These funds are available on a first come, first served basis with a total of $1.35 million allocated for this program.
