Caring for Your Heating and Cooling

Caring for your heating and cooling unit can be very easy. It is really a matter of keeping on top of cleaning and checking it properly. Mechanical Technologies can help with your heating and cooling needs. There are two types of care needed for the continued function of your unit. The first is short-term care, the second is long-term care. both are needed to keep your machine running smoothly.

Short-Term Care for Heating and Cooling

Short-term care does not mean that you plan for your unit to go out on you. or that you want the life of the unit to be short. It is really a term for daily care. Or small things you can do to make sure the unit works well. For short-term care of your heating and cooling systems, it all depends on regular cleaning. This cleaning includes the standard dusting and wiping, of course.

For dusting and wiping, you will want to make sure to move dust away from the vents. Not towards any openings or toward the intake pressure. This means moving your towel or duster in firm straight strokes away from the unit. It should not be a back and forth motion. As this can cause some dust or debris to still enter the machine. This can cause damage to the unit later.

Long Term Care For Heating and Cooling

Long term care means doing things that will help your unit last for years. For a heating and cooling unit, this will look like maintenance checks. This is having a professional come in to check your unit for any problems. This is important to its continued working. Even if the machine seems to be performing perfectly, it can have an issue within. This is what maintenance checks help to avoid. They will run diagnostics and do a thorough check of the unit’s internal parts. All this helps to prevent any small issue from becoming a major one.

These types of checks should be done every one to two years. Changing or buying new parts for the machine over time, is also a good way to care for it. Sometimes a unit may be working well in general, but a few parts might need help. Repairing or changing those parts as needed betters the health of the machine.

Caring for a heating and cooling unit is not too hard. It basically requires regular cleaning and awareness. But it also means watching for problems. This is why regular cleaning and maintenance checks are so important. Remember that the maintenance checks should be less in the beginning, and more often as the unit ages. Mechanical Technologies has experience working with all types of heating and cooling units.  You also want to check for problems when cleaning. This can look like cracks or water where it should not be. All this will help keep your unit working well and for years.
