Refrigerated air is very different than a swamp cooler. Not only is there a huge difference in cooling power but also in the workings of the two machines. To start, a swamp cooler does not use coolant in its system. Instead is uses a series of natural tumbling. Air naturally cools as it is brought down from different atmospheres. A swamp cooler tries to do this artificially. First, it takes in the air surrounding it. Then it feeds it into a tumbler type funnel. This funnel spins the air quickly, which, in turn, allows it time to cool down. The now cool air is then sent into the house via the vent system.
A refrigerated unit also takes air from the surrounding area and feeds it into a funnel-like tumbler, but it does not just let the air cool down naturally. Instead, it lines the funnel with coolant. This makes the air cool faster and colder too. It is then pumped down into the house as usual.
The idea that refrigerated air is better than a swamp cooler really depends on your area. If you live in an area with a climate that does not go above eighty to ninety degrees normally. Then a swamp cooler might be best. If you live in an area that sees high temperatures regularly. Then you might want something more powerful. A refrigerated unit would then be more appropriate. If that climate is large without humidity as well, then the swamp cooler should perform fine. This is because swamp cooler does not do well in humid atmospheres. This is due to its structure of pads and cooling. Any climate that has high humidity will render a swamp cooler practically useless. This is where a refrigerated unit would be best.
Choosing the right air conditioner is not about picking the ‘best’. Instead, it should be about picking what is best for you. Mechanical Technologies is experienced in refrigerated air. They can help you install and care for the unit once it is in.
