Habits That Will Cause You to Need Air Conditioning Repairs

Like the family dog, your air conditioner doesn’t ask much out of you in return for treating you right. While the AC doesn’t need to be fed and walked, it does need some attention from you so it keeps working. If you ignore it and take it for granted, it will remind you that it needs love by breaking down on you. Mechanical Technologies can help you with your air conditioning repairs.

Your Air Filter and Air Conditioning Repairs

The number one reason that people end up calling for air conditioning repairs is because they fail to change the air filter regularly. It is easy and inexpensive. By changing the air filter you prevent dust and dirt from entering your home. However, over time, the air filter can become clogged. It is generally recommended that you replace the filter every two or three months. However, if you have pets, run the unit for more than six months out of the year, have household members that smoke, or live near construction, you should change it every month. Not changing the air filter regularly can lead to freezing inside of the air conditioning unit and increased energy costs.

Run Times and Air Conditioning Repairs

If your system is always on or if you never turn it on, you can expect to have to call for air conditioning repairs. Having the unit run all day, every day, not only wastes power, it also decreases its efficiency and places it under undue stress. Instead, you should purchase a programmable thermostat that lets you predetermine what the temperature should be throughout the day.

On the other hand, don’t act as if the unit doesn’t exist. Because when you do need it, it will be full of mold and unable to work without air conditioning repairs being made. Furthermore, it can also affect any and all wood you have in your home. A programmable thermostat will allow the unit to run, even if only for a few minutes, and save you from expensive repairs.

Lack of Regular Maintenance

At least once a year, a technician should come out and take a look at both your indoor and outdoor units. They should clean the outdoor condenser coils and check the blower and motor. Then they can return and supply lines and refrigerant levels. This will help, especially if you are unaware of the signs of low refrigerant levels as lack of refrigerant can lead to ice buildup and ice build up can make the motor blow.

If you are in need of regular maintenance or air conditioning repairs in the El Paso area, call Mechanical Technologies. They will cool down your home without heating up your wallet.
