How Air Balancing Can Get Rid of Hot and Cold Spots:

As long as your home is well-insulated, your interior should be nice and toasty all winter, right? Well, not necessarily—hot and cold spots could develop if there are imbalances in the airflow inside your home. How do you make sure the airflow inside remains optimal? Through air balancing. Read on to learn more about air balancing and its benefits.

Finding Airflow Imbalances

If your HVAC system is not working as efficiently as it should, the AC repair contractor will first inspect the air ducts for any disconnected sections. Once they rule out the possibility of air leaks in the ductwork, they’ll use specialized equipment to measure:

  • How much air is flowing out of the air vents
  • The air pressure coming from the supply and return sides of your HVAC system
  • The temperature, humidity, and temperature differences in different rooms

Fixing the Imbalance

If your contractor find any imbalances in the airflow inside your home, they’ll make recommendations on correcting them, which might include:

  • Air duct cleaning
  • Installing dampers, valves that regulate airflow, inside the ducts
  • Making adjustments to the temperature settings

The Other Benefits of Optimal Indoor Airflow

Aside from better indoor comfort, what are the other benefits you can enjoy if airflow inside your home is optimized?  For one thing, since warm and cool air are distributed evenly throughout your home, your HVAC system won’t have to work as hard to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures, lowering your electricity bill and reducing the wear and tear on your HVAC system’s internal components.

Plus, air balancing can also contribute to better indoor air quality. With air passing through the filters more freely, there’s a lower risk of dust particles accumulating in the air ducts. Keep in mind that pinpointing  airflow imbalances requires precise calibrations and complex equipment, so you should only hire a qualified air conditioner service contractor to do it.
