Options for Heating Your House and Heater Repair

When you are looking into different options for heating, you need to think about what system is right for your El Paso home. Many people will heat their houses with either an electric or a gas furnace. However, you could also think about a heat pump, radiant heat, or a geothermal heating and cooling system.  Mechanical Technologies can provide information on different options for heating so you can make the right choice to keep your home comfortable. Another aspect to heating your home is the need for heating repair. Often times, home owners decide to conduct repairs on their own. However, this could possibly make the problem worse.

Common Options for Heating Your Home

To keep your home in El Paso warm, you could opt for a furnace. A furnace uses natural gas, propane, or electricity to warm up air. Then the warm air is blown through ducts in your home. Radiant heat, another alternative, involves warming up water which runs through pipes in your floor or through radiators.  Geothermal harnesses the warm air under the earth to heat your home, and involves digging wells and getting a geothermal unit. A heat pump works to extract outside heat and transfer it in. You should consider all the options available in your area when deciding what heating system is best.

Choosing a System for Heating Your Home

As you consider different options for heating so you can keep your home in El Paso comfortable, there are a few key considerations. For example, you should look at the initial cost of your system as some systems have much higher up front costs than others. Consider whether your system will use the same ducts as an air conditioner (a radiant heat system may not, so costs are higher).  Also think about how energy efficient your system will be so you can determine your energy costs for heating your house. Often times utility costs fluctuate through each system.

Signs You Need Heating Repairs

There are a few common problems that may cause the need for heating repairs. The most common is lack of maintenance. A heating system needs a bit of mechanical care throughout the year to keep it running smoothly. During seasonal maintenance you will be able to spot normal wear and tear to replace parts before they go bad. Clogged and dirty filters can cause need for heating repairs as well. Thermostat malfunctions are another cause of heating problems. There are a few signs to look for. A few include your system making loud noises, your house not heating up, and the color of the pilot flame. Yellow as well as flickering flames can mean that your unit is producing carbon monoxide, which is serious. Excess moisture in the house and soot streaks on the furnace are other indications.
