Things to Expect During an HVAC Installation

Replacing a major home component like the HVAC system is more complicated than, say,  swamp cooler maintenance. For many homeowners, this task may even sound daunting. In today’s post, local HVAC company Mechanical Technologies aims to relieve some of your anxiety by discussing the things you should expect during an HVAC installation.

Before Installation

The first step in replacing your HVAC system is consulting with one or more HVAC companies. A representative will first calculate the size of your home–that is, how many cubic feet of indoor space needs to be heated and cooled–and determine the right HVAC unit sizing for your home. Other parts such as the ductwork, attic and insulated areas will also be assessed.

You’ll then receive HVAC model recommendations. You should be given enough time to weigh the pros and cons of each before making your choice. The HVAC contractor representative should have no problems explaining details, from technical specifications to payment methods, as well as providing relevant documentation like licensing, insurance and warranty information.

During Installation

On installation day, HVAC installers will protect your flooring and move furniture as needed. If you’ve had home AC repair performed at least once, then this part may already be familiar. After preparations, the old air conditioner, furnace or heat pump will be shut off from the panel, disconnected and removed, followed by the installation of the new unit. In some cases, old wiring may need to be replaced if the old HVAC system’s electrical connections are worn out. This helps prevent fire hazards and ensure reliable operation.

After Installation

After completing installation, the HVAC installers will perform a series of tests and make sure the new HVAC system is working. You’ll also receive a demonstration of its features, as well as tips on how to use it efficiently and how to perform maintenance tasks like air filter replacement. Warranty registration may be completed either on the same day or a few days later.
