How to Save Energy During Fall

Fall is generally a comfortable season. It’s not too warm, and the temperature is still far from freezing. This makes it an excellent time for people to reduce their dependence on their HVAC systems and save energy and money.

To maximize your savings this season check out these HVAC tips for you.

Adjust Your Thermostat Settings

Minor tweaks in your thermostat settings can go a long way. Turn back your thermostat by 7 to 10 degrees for eight hours a day. This is guaranteed to lower your energy consumption and utility bills. A programmable thermostat can make it easier to adjust your settings, so make sure to invest in one if you haven’t gotten it yet.

Look Out for Cracks, Leaks, and Drafts

Air leakage is the result of cracks or gaps in windows, doors, and walls. It’s one of the main culprits behind high energy bills. That said, make sure to check all your windows and doors for drafts. If your front or back door has gaps, add weatherstripping to the bottom or caulk the gaps to prevent heat from escaping.

Close Your Fireplace

Close your fireplace damper to keep your indoor spaces warm. Warm air can escape through your chimney if the damper is open and there is no fire burning. Also, consider using energy-efficient fireplace grates to draw cool air into your fireplace and push warm air back into your room.

Let the Sun In

Heat and light from your windows can help warm your home during fall. Consider opening your curtains to let in plenty of sunlight and heat. You can also trim back trees to allow more sunlight through your windows.

With proper HVAC maintenance, you can be sure your home will receive sufficient heating throughout the colder seasons. Mechanical Technologies will make sure your HVAC system is working efficiently. Call us at (915) 544-1550 or fill out this contact form to request an appointment.
